Michael Van Buuren started this petition to South African Government

Employees in this trade have been very hard hit by the effects of the Coronavirus Covid-19 Lockdown in South Africa.

Precautions are a trade standard in this industry with regular screening. Employees have no alternative means of generating and income and have been informed by Nation Government in South Africa that trade in their industry will only be allowed when Lockdown reaches Level 1.

As this pandemic could continue for some time, it is a very real possibility and threat that this action by the South African Government to maintain the closure of this industry throughout the lockdown period, will effectively result in the collapse of the industry itself and create a major knock on effect on the already weakened and struggling South African economy.

I know people from this industry personally and can attest to the profound adverse effects that this is having on their home life as well as their professional life.

The question is, how can Government allow 10 to 15 people to travel in a minibus taxi, without enforcing basic sanitation, but will not allow an industry to trade that at it's core is all about sanitation and the health and well-being of it's employees and clients.

Does the South African National Government really have such a massive disregard for the citizens of South African as to overlook this and instead penalise an industry because of government's failure?

If you really want to contain the pandemic, then by all means restrict movement, but why treat certain sectors differently simply because you do not understand the basic inner workings of that industry.
