We, the undersigned, support removing white days and replacing our current schedule with one that alternates between gold and black days. Currently, Souhegan High School has a schedule that rotates between white, gold and black days. On white days, we have classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. On gold days, we have classes 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7. On black days, we have classes 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8. Each student would have 8, 85 minute classes, two in the morning, then split by lunch and advisory, 30 minutes each, and then 2 more classes. On gold days, we would have classes 1, 3, lunch & advisory, 5 and 7. On black days, we would have classes 2, 4, lunch & advisory, 6 and 8.

According to the newsletter of the NEA, a reputable national association of educators, stress can be reduced by switching to A/B schedules (only double blocks) and more in-depth learning happens. A calmer day has also resulted from the switch to A/B schedules at Boeckman Middle School, states the NEA. In addition, College Board says that A/B schedules can lead to achievement. According to GreatSchools, a reputable national nonprofit that rates schools to help parents find the right school, schools that have A/B blocks have a higher average overall score than those who don’t.

It’s time to switch to a schedule that makes sense and helps teachers teach and students learn. Sign to remove white days!
