Over the past year the traffic situation on part of the Chisamba/Chibombo stretch of Great North Road has deteriorated into unacceptable chaos. From the 70/70 roundabout to the road block just before DMI St Eugene University, to the Mungule Road junction (10 miles) and if this is not enough the poorly erected rumble strips at 11 miles. The congestion has become a nightmare for motorists. Great North Road is an economic road and as a result the time spent on that stretch is actually a huge cost to the economy.  In addition the fact that motorists are resorting to driving on the side of the road is a danger to pedestrians. It is also causing damage to motor vehicles.

Apart from the traffic transiting through, there are businesses, schools and residential homes that are so negatively impacted by a problem that has been created by the failure to implement simple measures like removing the road block, traffic lights at the 10 miles junction and removing the rumble strips, among others. Road Development Agency, Road Transport and Safety Agency, Zambia Police need to urgently put their heads together.  The situation is truly unacceptable!!!
