Bring back Blue Lagoon restricted dog access over summer!

The Sorell Council have recently passed a by-law that for 3 months over summer dogs are prohibited on the beach 24/7, they have advised they advertised this in The Mercury, on their Facebook page and it was brought up at community forums, however, the most important place to advise the proposed changes would’ve been a sign at the beach itself, which is the only way to ensure everyone affected, knows about the proposed changes.
The reason for the removal of the restricted hours and prohibit dogs entirely is to provide one dog free beach and reduce the impact they have on the shore birds. Sadly Blue Lagoon Beach is the one beach that is not so greatly impacted by tides as are the other designated dog beaches that are often unable to be accessed at all.
In reality the only people at the beach, even in summer, before 10am and after 7pm (previous restricted hours) are dog walkers and it is already dog free, as it should be, between that time.
It is a great beach that provides a wonderful opportunity to safely have dogs greet each other and humans and become better social animals. Our wonderful birds that inhabit all our beaches, our gardens and parks are not in any danger; and they also have the perfect safe home of Spec Island to nest and rest at.
We live in Tasmania where Summer is hit and miss and the only people at the beach 24/7 rain, hail or shine are dog walkers. It is an injustice to penalise these responsible dog owners who walk their dogs and interact and socialise at this beach (the problem owners and their dogs are elsewhere).
If you agree with reinstating the previous restricted dog access hours, are a dog lover, just a reasonable person or generally understand some common sense then please sign my petition.
