If you live in Wombourne or surrounding areas you are most likely familiar with Mr Darryl Smith. He works with the children at St.Benedict Biscop C.E primary school and surrounding schools. He also is a fantastic all round P.E coach and a role model who excels at teaching our children a variety of sports and inspiring the younger generation to lead an active lifestyle along with providing top class football coaching to children of all ages and abilities. As a community of siblings, parents, grandparents and friends of St.Benedicts we are standing together to express our sheer disbelief at the half-hearted decision made by the school to end the contract of Mr Daryl Smith to deliver the physical education curriculum at the primary school. We know that the primary focus of sending your child to school is to develop their mathematic and English skills, but I ask you, If the children do not enjoy their time during school, how do we expect them to achieve these grades ?Children have the ability to excel in anything whether it be in the classroom, whilst playing sport or even with out of school hobbies and interests, when they are enjoying themselves, as I'm sure that you are all aware of from watching your own child's progression and commitment to something that they enjoy. Mr Smith is what makes the school enjoyable for our children as provides a fundamental break from normal lessons to enable our children to return to the classroom refreshed and ready to continue with their classroom based study. He is loved by all the children of the school and the local community who are all incredibly saddened to discover that his contract is being ended despite being a huge part of the school for the last 15 years.
As members of the school, we need to decide what is best for our children and we need to put their best interests at heart. For this reason we ask you to sign our petition to keep Mr Smith part of our school and our children's curriculum.
