Petitioning Sony Pictures

Reconsider their decision to cast Taylor Swift as Joni Mitchell.

Joni Mitchell is one of the greatest songwriters, singers, and guitarists of all time, whose impact on music and musicians, especially women musicians, is incalculable. Taylor Swift is a somewhat talented singer and collaborates with professional songwriters on her somewhat decent songs, but is nowhere near the caliber of artist that Joni is, even if one compares them at an early age. Casting Taylor Swift in this role plays against the very message of Ms. Weller's book, which compares Mitchell, Carly Simon, and Carole King and their effects on music and the cultural consciousness. Sure, casting Ms. Swift may pique the curiosity of young movie-goers, but the role of Joni Mitchell certainly requires a depth and versatility that Ms. Swift has not displayed in her other acting roles, or her music, and having her in the role certainly jeopardizes the potential overall quality of the film. Keep the role open to other candidates, please!
