Tell Sony Music to drop R. Kelly

We call on Sony Music to drop R. Kelly as a client, to cut all ties with this man whose victims have described as "the devil."

On Monday, July 17th, BuzzFeed News published an article detailing the crimes of R. Kelly. The report, which has already been confirmed by VogueHuffPost, The Guardian, and Business Insider describes Kelly drawing young women into his life with the promise of launching their music career, only to rope them into what can only be described as a sex cult. According to first and second hand accounts by victims and their families, Kelly currently holds six women aged eighteen to thirty-one hostage physically, sexually, and emotionally. Firsthand accounts of victims describe beatings, emotional manipulation, mandatory "training" to please Kelly sexually, and nearly complete isolation from the outside world. Reports suggest that Kelly controls who they see, what they eat, what they wear, and where they go. Even their phones have been confiscated. This is nothing short of slavery. It is also not the first time Kelly has been under fire for sexual misconduct. In 2008, he was tried for fourteen counts of child pornography. Since all the women involved in this current case are of consenting age, police have refused to come to the aid of families who have lost their loved ones to this monstrous man. Kelly's ultimate fate is in the hands of the law. With that said, we believe that the least we can do is ensure that his music, which often celebrates his sexual exploits and showers him with the funds and fame he needs to run this cult, not be placed on a pedestal.
