Spider-man is one of the most beloved characters in pop-culture history. He has appeared in a large number of comics, television series, films, and of course... videogames. At the time of this petition, a videogame studio by the name of "Crystal Dynamics" will release a game called "Avengers". In the new game, players will be able to play as fan favorite Marvel characters such as Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and more. One addition to the huge ensemble of comic book legends,  is the wall crawler himself... Spider-man. However, there is one MAJOR problem involving the licensing rights. Sony owns the character's film rights. They also produced a spiderman game back in 2018 that was exclusive to the Playstation 4, and they have two more games planned to be exclusive on the Playstation 5. With this in mind, Sony decided to make Stan Lee's Legacy icon into an exclusive playable charcter on the Playstation 4 (and possibly PS5). This means that everybody who purchased an Xbox One or a Google Stadia will not have access to the character. This an outrage to Spider-man fans and gamers that do not own a Playstation 4. Gamers who do not play on the Playstation 4 will not recieve the full value of the product that they have purchased. If the game does support cross-play, then Xbox and Stadia fans will still have the base game and characters, but they will also be missing the chance to swing around the city as Spider-man with the other Avengers. Spider-man means a lot to people (myself included). What if a consumer buys the game on a different platform and then finds out he/she has to buy a seperate console just to play as the character.  This benefits the company, but it is heavily anti-consumer. If Sony gets their way, then gamers and Marvel fans may never have the oppurtunity to play as their favorite super hero on their choice of console ever again.
