Theresa O'Brien started this petition to SONY

If you knew that people were killed to make the devices you use every day, would you still buy them? This applies to technology giants like Tesla, Sony, Samsung, and Toshiba. These companies use minerals like gold, coltan, and other minerals that are most common in African countries like Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These minerals are called “conflict minerals” because they are mined by children, and in many circumstances, in very harsh conditions. These minerals are used in phones, computers, cars, video games systems, etc.

This conflict matters because it is killing millions of people. Many people do not know that the Democratic Republic of Congo is in the midst of a civil war that has killed over 5 million people, as it has been overshadowed by much smaller world conflicts. Some companies like Apple and Google have taken big steps to stop the use of conflict minerals. Other companies, however, are pretending to ignore the fact that this massive problem is brewing in today’s world. One of the biggest culprits of this is Sony. Sony uses tons of conflict minerals per year in their products, and it seems they haven’t taken any steps to make any changes. I ask companies like Sony to at least recognize that money isn’t everything, and that people are much more valuable. If we work together as one planet to solve this problem, we can make the world a much better place for everybody, not just ourselves.
