Bewitched is a family fantasy sitcom that ran for eight seasons on ABC from September 17, 1964 to March 25, 1972.

The series follows a witch named Samantha (played by Elizabeth Montgomery), who marries a mortal named Darrin Stevens (played by Dick York, and later, Dick Sargent). However, Sam's mother, Endora (played by Agnes Moorehead), disapproves of the mixed marriage. Throughout the series, Samantha tries to live like a mortal human, but sometimes wants to do witchcraft (mostly with a twitch of her nose), which upsets Darrin most of the time, as he stated "Love, Honor, and no Witchcraft".

Select episodes have been released on VHS, and the complete series has been released on DVD by Sony, and later by Mill Creek.

As of writing this, the series airs in standard definition on the OTA retro TV network called Antenna TV, and airs in high definition on free streaming TV station Pluto TV.

The series looks great in HD, and in 16:9 too! The downside is that scenes in 16:9 are cropped, with very little added to the left and right, as well as panning and scanning. Usually, I'm against cropping 4:3 content, but in my personal opinion, the 16:9 version makes the original 4:3 version look like an open-matte version, meaning a 16:9 shot with the top and bottom expanded.

While I like the fact that I can watch this bewitching TV series (no pun intended) anytime on the internet in HD, I think me and other Bewitched fans would agree, that it would be better to own the complete series in HD physically, on Blu-ray.

Here's what I would like to see on the Blu-ray release (ranging from most to least wanted):

  • The original Season 1-5 opening intros and music.
  • Commercials/TV spots for the show, as bonus features.
  • All episodes of the "Tabitha" spin-off (starring Lisa Hartman), as well as the un-aired pilot (starring Liberty Williams), all in HD, and as bonus features.
  • 4K Blu-ray release alongside the regular Blu-ray release. (Yes, I'm crazy.)
  • Both 4:3 and 16:9 releases. This is for those who prefer the original broadcast aspect ratio of 4:3, while others like me, may want to see it in 16:9.
If only either version we're to be released, then go for 4:3. Fans may want to pick between the 4:3 and 16:9 versions.
However, knowing Sony, they might just only release the 16:9 version, because as far as I know, it's the only HD version.

So with all that said, please Sony, bring us the hilarity of Samantha, Darrin, Endora, Aunt Clara, Uncle Arthur, Serena, Dr. Bombay, and more, in Bewitched, in bewitching HD on Blu-ray! (Again, no pun intended.)
