There's no excuse for having to place over one hundred telephone calls over the course of an hour, or more, and still not getting through to a taxi company. There's no excuse for the number of times dispatchers do not send a taxi when one is pre-booked. The companies need to be held accountable by the government that regulates the industry.

Issuing more taxi licenses will not solve the problem if the companies do not add more phone lines to manage the volume of telephone calls they receive. As Calgary continues to grow, ensuring adequate transportation means (including taxi services) is required to ensure safe roads in the city.

While some action has been taken, it has clearly not solved the problem. The City of Calgary needs to take more action, and the right actions, to finally demonstrate results on this issue.

As Calgarians work to comply with Alberta's more strict alcohol limit, we need the infrastructure in place to do this safely - particularly during the winter months, at sub zero temperatures. The City needs to act.
