Convert the Hinkley haul road to a Cycle / Pedestrian walk way post completion
Since the Hinkley Connection project has been underway, there are a number of Haul Roads created to support the removal of old Pylons and erection of new.
Whilst the haul roads have cut across fields, impacting the environment and views, they could - longer term, create a wonderful Cycle path and walk way that would connect a number of rural villages and create a safe place for children and adults to explore the countryside.
We have a lack of safe roads to walk and cycle on, especially in Sedgemoor - with a number of footpaths continually blocked off by residents.
The stretch we are focused on runs from Mark to Banwell which would create a wonderful alternative to driving and link up villages along the way, a bonus for local businesses as well.
A charity would be established to raise funds for annual maintenance and shrub planting along the path to create an attractive, year round option - promoting exercise, good health and would be kinder to the environment longer term - especially if further work to remove the roads can be avoided.
The Mendip Hills are so beautiful, this would give more people access to them whilst avoiding the need to drive and park to go for a walk!
