We, the undersigned condemn the victimisation of three members of the English School Staff Association (ESSA) in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Under the school's current management the staff's conditions of service are under attack. Members of the ESSA were forced to take industrial action in Autumn 2021 to defend their livelihoods. In response to this management initiated disciplinary action against the rep on the pretext of communication undertaken with parents to inform them of the disruption. Outraged ESSA members took further action in defence of their rep.

Ignoring the wide level of support for the action among staff and widespread sympathy from the public, at the start of the summer holiday school management used further spurious pretexts to try to dismiss both the ESSA rep and two other leading activists.

We condemn this attack on committed professionals undertaking entirely valid industrial action. We urge the school management to drop all disciplinary action against the three victimised staff, to respect all staff's right to organise and negotiate collectively through ESSA, and to withdraw the attacks on members’ conditions.
