St. John's University is one of the most diverse universities in the United States. Unfortunately, many students often feel that their culture and identity are unrepresented, unappreciated and uncelebrated. As Haraya, we recognize the importance of celebrating all races and cultures. In upholding the value of St. John's, we believe that there should be a day to celebrate minorities of all communities on campus. Black Solidarity Day is a day where everyone from all backgrounds can not only come together to appreciate different cultures, but to engage in academic enrichment that helps us learn about the social injustices that plague different communities and how we all can fulfill our civic duties of becoming active members of the community who promote unity, love, and prosperity. Therefore, it is beneficial that all students can have the free opprotunity to participate in this day without the obligations of attending class, taking an exam, or submitting course work.
