SSU Students of Solent university started this petition to SSU Of solent univeristy

We, the students of Southampton Solent University, are concerned about our learning and future whilst working towards our degrees.  We believe that we have not received the high quality of learning online due to the lack of facilities and lectures we do not receive anymore, causing stress and worry for our final grades. Whilst also not receiving our high quality of learning we are still expected to produce the same high quality of previous assignments, which is causing effect on students mental health.

We understand times like these are difficult for universities themselves and Solent University always tries to put their students first but whilst paying fees of £9,500 we feel disheartened and don’t believe the university has taken the measures it has to give the students their worth of money.

Staff have done their very best to deliver us the same quality of teaching, but it is just not possible with poor connections, technology glitches, and the inability to properly communicate as we would normally face-to-face.

Whilst worrying about our university learning we also have other issues:

the variable quality of lessons taught online
no access to campus facilities
lack of contact with staff
paying rent on accommodation we are not using

The government report states “university students who pay tuition fees are protected by consumer law, and are entitled to seek remedies or refunds if their university fails to provide the education they have paid for.”

As students are unable to access facilities or continue with their eduction at their university setting in the following semester, we would like to request that the Solent University considers refunding tuition payments for Semester 3.

Majority of Universities across England have closed early to ensure safety for all students and staff in light of the recent situation regarding COVID-19.

In addition to moving teaching events online, students believe they’re not high quality learning and these closures have resulted in students having no access to facilities that they have paid for (such as the library, students union, student support services, etc.)
