One of the most prominent concerns we have for our class and the rest of the students at the school is the collective low state of mental health all of us are experiencing. Having to spend long periods sitting still at a single spot staring at a screen let alone being expected to engage in the curriculum is harming the mental health of many. Thus, we came up with a proposal and a couple options.
As stated in the title, this would be a day when students would be able to relax and spend time away from the screen. A couple times a semester or once a week, the school can suggest what students can do on this day of no Zoom, Reading, Yoga, Meditation, Cleaning, Hiking. If teachers feel the need to, they may assign work on this anachronistic day. I think that this may be helpful and even necessary to many students. While I am aware that the frequency of mandating this day may pose as a challenge, even limiting screen time in any way will help tremendously and may encourage a better and happier remote learning environment.
