Ruby Benton started this petition to Social services

Since I can remember, social services have used their title to their advantage, broken laws, separated familes, made false reports and violated basic human rights.

Since my family has been in touch with social services its been nothing but harassment, lies and manipulation. It’s been very difficult on all of us as we all try our best for each other and they make false accusations which could be, in future, detrimental to our reputation. My mother suffers from anxiety and she takes sertraline to cope with it, this does not effect her ability to be a parent, as social services decided. My boyfriend has been staying with us for 9 months and he is on a child protection plan. When social services came to visit us they explained to us the visit was for him and about him. Since then, they have continued to go into my sisters primary school without a teacher present and interrogate her about my mothers mental health. Which we believe shouldn’t be known to a 9 year old. They have then continued to push me to speak about a traumatic incident with exact words “I can’t ignore it”. This was very frustrating as I asked politely not to discuss what happened because I have just learnt how to cope with it, and she wasn’t helping.

My aim is social services are NOT allowed to make false accusations and lies on a report on a child. Everything has to be factual checked. For example, an independent individual should be in the room when their speaking to children alone as they tend to use children to their advantage, and twist their words. I also tend to aim even higher, that there should be a law on local authorities discrimination of mental health. It’s disgusting and traumatising to accuse a parent of not being able to protect their child because of their mental health. When, 1 in 3 people now today suffer from anxiety. Most importantly, I demand for childrens voices to be heard. Social services have made decisions for me, that i do not agree with, without even asking me or giving me options on what I wanted. For example, on my child protection plan it says I HAVE to go get professional help. This wasn’t even brought up in conversation so I didn’t even have a chance to speak my opinion. If they had of asked me, they would know I dont find speaking to people helps.

At present the complaints system is flawed due to having to complain to the social workers manager where little ( if anything ) is done. I believe there should be an independent body who can investigate and handle complaints without bias or fear of retribution.

Just because you’re under 18 doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have freedom over your life.
