On Tuesday, March 2nd Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a new executive order that would undo all previous executive orders regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as removing the state wide mask mandate, going into effect Wednesday, March 10th. With the state of Texas opening up 100% and the lack of a state wide mask mandate, it is SMU's responsibility as a university and center of higher learning to follow in the footsteps of the Governor of SMU's home state and remove the campus wide mask policy, as well as reducing other COVID-19 restrictions around campus, such as guests in dorm rooms, limited study space in the library, limited seating in dining halls and other similar restrictions. The removal of a mask mandate does not mean the removal of masks on campus, but rather gives those who feel comfortable not wearing a mask the opportunity to do so.
