Restore Meadows' undergraduate access to photography department resources.

Restore Meadows' undergraduate access to photography department resources.
As of the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year, the SMU Meadows' Art Department has restricted undergraduate use of SMU's photography resources (namely the photo studio, the printing room, and the darkroom; here to be named the 'photography lab') from after-hours coded access to extremely limited, monitored hours during weekdays and on Sundays.
This restriction, while it may have been placed with good intentions, works to the inconvenience of all undergraduate students who have classes, lunch breaks, or work during the photography lab's posted hours.
We kindly request a reevaluation of undergraduate access for Meadows' photography lab. Proposed solutions are, but not limited to, the following;
- Students must undergo an orientation before using any lab resources
- Students must enter the lab by scanning their student IDs
- Students must make an appointment online for each visit, and submit a picture of the lab before and after their appointment
We believe that if students, both graduate and undergraduate from all SMU disciplines, are allowed 24/7 access to the Engineering School's Deason Innovation Gym, a.k.a. the DIG, after a short training (where they will use expensive, complex machinery such as 3D printers, laser cutters, a CNC carving machine, vinyl cutters, and other power tools), so too should Meadows' allow its students the freedom to use the photography lab that our tuition dollars fund.
