Becoming a parent is a blessing. But it brings a huge set of responsibilities along with it.  Child development involves mental, physical support of both the parents. Especially when the child is born, it is the responsibility of both the parents to carry out the upbringing of the kid with their time and attention. However in current scenario where both genders are busy in their career, it becomes very important for them to share their parental responsibilities equally. Sometimes this life changing experience forces the women to confine at home and play a traditional gender role, male partner concentrates more on paid work while a child missing the father’s presence in his/her life.

Progressive parental leave policies can smooth the transition to parenthood and split the parenting burden between mother and father.

Parental leave policies are more than just legalese – they’re a major indication of a country’s approach to gender equality. Encouraging both long periods of leave and the sharing of responsibilities between parents, recently Finland has introduced the concept of 7 Months paid parental leave for both the parents and a total of 14 months leave for single parents.

Currently there is a provision for 6 months of maternity leave and 15 days of paternity leave in India. I have started this petition to bring everyone’s attention towards the role which both parents play in a kid’s development. So this petition is to provide 6 months equal leave for both the parents so that the father does not miss the important moments in child’s upbringing.
