Smoking to be banned in public places, other than designated smoking zones

Smoking is the primary cause of preventable illnesses. According to the Action on Smoking & Health (ASH), smoking is responsible for 96,000 annual deaths in the UK alone.

The most noteworthy smoking-related cause of death is Cancer. This is something that nobody wants to come to terms with. As a student, I have many people make jokes about cancer, then smokers themselves would say things like "That's not funny" and all that, then go out and smoke in public around non-smokers like it is a joke, as this increases the non-smoker's risk of cancer by 20-30%

In 2007, the government made smoking in enclosed public places, such as pubs, illegal (with come exceptions). I'd like to think that they did this with the intent of reducing the impact of smoking on young people. But let's think about that. Imagine the scenario of a summers day in the park, this is where children will be playing and adults will be smoking! Not indoors!

So what I am proposing is that smoking should become illegal in ALL public areas, with small designated smoking areas where children, pregnant, elderly or ill people are likely to be.

Please support this petition so that non-smokers can enjoy a healthy life.
