Smart Parking operates the car park at Strothers Lane, Inverness where, over the past six months, readers of the Highland News have reported a range of difficulties through the newspaper’s Stop Taking the P campaign.

Dozens of drivers have reported being unfairly charged for a range of reasons as they attempted to use the car park in good faith. These include:

  1.  making simple, often single-digit, errors when inputting vehicle registration details at ticket machines.
  2. entering the car park with the intention of parking but, being unable to find a space, leaving after a short period then finding themselves accused of parking without buying a ticket.
  3. finding ticket machines not working but being charged for failing to buy a ticket anyway.

The bad reputation of this car park is now damaging Inverness city centre as a whole as much as Smart Parking itself, with some readers suggesting their bad experience here has made them think twice about visiting the area.

All of the above issues must be dealt with but as an initial first step and as a gesture of goodwill we call on Smart Parking to rescind all disputed charges levied against car park customers since the Highland News’s Stop Taking the P campaign began in December 2016.
