We are Pacific Sun Produce, a small local produce store located in South Burnaby that has been operating for more than 20 years. Our names are Richard and Susan, the owners of the store and we are struggling to keep their doors open in 2019 due to the lease and property tax increase, totaling about 37% increase.
Over the 22 years of opening Pacific Sun Produce, we were fortunate enough to be a part of a warm, tight-knit community with their customers. We love our customers and they are the reason that we open our doors every day. Each and every customer is like our "best friend", as Richard loves to say. Throughout the years our small store has evolved into more than just a produce store because we wanted to sell more unique products to Canadian culture. We started selling Hispanic products due to our Spanish background from the years we lived in Venezuela. With this selling point we are able to educate our customers about the nutrients and cooking style of these ingredients, spreading Latin American culture to our customers. We love our job very much, we are so fortunate to be able to have such caring customers, it made us realize that this is the only job for us.
Originally the petition started in the store, but with the advice from our customers, we decided to put the petition online and spread it on social media. The goal of our petition is to find assistance in alleviating our monetary pressure from our lease. We hope with the support of the signatures and comments from our petition the city of Burnaby or our landlord will take notice and take action.
