Why this petition matters

COVID-19 is a global crisis and the virus is spreading rapidly. While most festivals (music or otherwise) are canceling or postponing their events, Afro Nation 2020 in Portugal is still on schedule for Fri, Jul 17 – Sun, Jul 19, 2020. This shows a lack of social awareness and responsibility that will not be tolerated by festival goers at this time.

The majority of festival attendees will be coming from countries like Ireland and England. In Ireland for instance, tourist travel to offshore islands will not be resumed until Phase 5, which begins on the 10th of August. So not only is it irresponsible for the festival to proceed, a lot of people CAN'T actually go as their national guidelines prohibit this. Aside from this, festival goers are scared and fear being in a crowded environment will compromise their health. Especially when there is no cure or vaccine available in the foreseeable future.

When contacted on their instagram page, Afro Nation Portugal responded today (04/05/20) that "Afro Nation is proceeding as planned". Larger events such as Coachella and the Olympics for example have been cancelled and people refunded. This petition calls for Afro Nation Portugal to cancel or postpone its event and put their festival goers first.
