Why this petition matters

Started by Brenda Markham

 Camden, NC Residents ONLY…

It is past time that the citizens of Camden County petition the Board of Commissioners to place a one year moratorium on the approval of new home developments/subdivisions. The county continues to overburden essential services with its current UDO. They must use the time granted by a moratorium to resolve two main issues: 1. Water supply for the entire county. 2. Allow time for the construction of adequate school facilities.

Below you will find reference to the General Statute(NC Law) and a portion of a brief as it pertains to such action.

We have been told too many times this is not possible. It is possible, and we must compel the Camden BOC to pause development while they take action on developing a SMARTER growth plan for our beautiful county. This is paramount for current and future residents as well as our environment. Help keep Camden rural and please sign the petition.

Statutory Authority.
G.S. 160D-107 allows temporary development moratoria to be placed on any city or
county development approval. This includes zoning permits, land subdivision plats,
building permits, sign permits, and any other approvals required prior to development…
…does not limit moratoria on residential uses adopted for other purposes,
such as a lack of necessary infrastructure…
