While many school districts in Colorado have continued sports, Mapleton Public Schools has not allowed any sports within the district. If a student would like to compete they would have to play sports for a different school district. One of the greater problems in this situation is how expensive it may be and transportation. The costs can vary from around $140 to over $200 to make the switch, this means its over $160 in difference of what Mapleton athletes usually pay.
I began this petition for the Skyview girls wrestling team, however, the more I’ve begun to think about the team I’ve also thought about the other student-athletes who haven’t been able to compete this year.
The athletes at Skyview are perseverant and put their hearts into their sports. Many student-athletes use sports as their way to success so without sports, many students are not encouraged to do as well in school. Canceling sports is influencing the mindsets of students and influencing the mental health of many and for many  their sports are their safe zones. So the question is are they keeping us healthy by sending us to different school districts and come back to ours? Sports to us are more than wins and loses. It’s a lifestyle to most. So please if you can sign and share please do so the Mapleton School District can see how this is affecting student-athletes throughout the district.
