Samuel Slone started this petition to Skyline HS Principal Mr. Cory McElmeel

Problem
**PLEASE READ**
Yesterday I went to the bathroom at the beginning of 4th hour because I was upset and tearful. While in the bathroom, I was talking to a friend and the principal came in. He immediately said the bathroom “smelled like marijuana” and asked me why my eyes were glassy and red. I told him I wear contacts, and they often irritate my eyes, and also that I was upset and had been tearful. The principal then told me that I was going to be searched and had me sent upstairs, where I was examined by the nurse, patted down, and inspected. Before he sent me up, he radioed that they “may need to have me arrested”. After searching my bag and finding nothing, they asked me to explain myself, and I told them exactly what happened. They did not believe me and denied the fact that I was upset in the bathroom or could have been tearful, or the fact that my contacts could have been irritated. I asked to talk to my parents, but they wouldn’t let me speak to them without them talking to them first. After spending 45 minutes being questioned and searched, the administrators told me that I was either going to be suspended for 10 days or would have to go to drug education classes during my lunch period, and if I did not attend those, I would be suspended. I asked what evidence they had against me, and they said they had “reasonable suspicion”, but had no physical evidence against me. After going home and taking a drug test (which was of course negative), I had my parents call the school and they denied that the negative results on drug test would change my punishment. I found it very concerning and was outraged at the school administration that they chose to disregard the fact that I was tearful and upset and still chose to subject me to all the searches and questioning regardless. For a school that cares so much about mental health, I wasn’t even asked if I was okay. They acted as though I was lying and they seemed to believe I was guilty even before they began searching me. According to the AAPS code of conduct, when a student is charged with a violation of school rules the building administrator shall inform the student of the charges against them and, if the student denies the charges, the administrator shall provide the student with an explanation of the evidence the administrator possesses. This did not occur which lead to false accusations without any proof of wrongdoing. From one student to another I ask you to please help me in protesting this unjust allegation and to help reverse this situation. I ask you to please share this message with your friends, family, teachers, etc. to raise awareness of this unfairness in our community.

Solution
By signing this petition you are helping me communicate with the principal and faculty of Skyline HS, telling them that what happened was unfair. This should cause the principal to revoke the punishment.
