Why this petition matters

Started by Matteo Parodi

Recently some students who simply do not want to attend class have started a petition to cancel classes. I, being a student at Lincoln High School believe that the threat is not at that level yet. They do not understand that students of SJUSD have very few if any resources to continue their education at home. There is no way that classes could continue online which would result in classes being pushed into the summer break and eventually the 2020-2021 school year. Many students do not realize that around 75% of students are on reduced price lunch. Which means for some students that school is the only place where they can have a meal. What are they going to do if schools close? Not eat?

The reaction to this virus has been over exaggerated, there are currently only 4 cases of Coronavirus that deal with Santa Clara County residents under the age of 18. There has only been 1 death in the county which is home to almost 2 million people. In the 13 days from the introduction of Coronavirus to the County, 1 person has died from the virus, countless people have died from driving under the influence, countless people have died as a result of depression, and there is no talk on what will be done about it. It’s time that we start to talk about the issues that really impact our community.
