As residents of SJGCC, we are so fortunate to enjoy beautiful amenities that enable us and our families to be active and social in the community in which we live. 

We request that the CDD explore options for adding lighting to the basketball courts and field area at the front of our community. We feel lighting would be beneficial for the following reasons:

1. Adding lighting to areas has been shown to be an effective means of preventing crime (U.S. Department of Justice: https://cops.usdoj.gov/RIC/Publications/cops-p156-pub.pdf)

2. Adding lighting to the basketball courts and field provides a safe, close area for our families and children to play. 

3. In the winter months, the sun sets at approximately 6 p.m. ET in Florida. Adding lighting would make our facilities accessible in the early evening.

We recognize there are homes in the proximity of this recreational area so we understand that rules would need to be set in place for how late the lighting stayed on and the positioning of the lighting (to ensure it shown on the courts and field).
