Allow Classics & Ancient History students to graduate together

The university has released Graduation dates for July 2014; in the proposed schedule, students with the degree title of Classics and Classical Studies will be graduating together, but Ancient History students will be graduating in a separate ceremony.

The Classics and Ancient History department is made up of three degree programmes; Classics, Classical Studies and Ancient History. Although students are given one of these distinct degree titles, modules are not exclusive to a particlar degree programme and so all students will have taken a diverse range of modules. As a result we do not distinguish ourselves between being Classicists or Ancient Historians, but consider ourselves one united student body. This is furthered by our SSLC and Classics Society, where the degree distinctions have no bearing - we are all proud to be united under the umbrella term of 'Classics'. Therefore it makes no sense to be put in separate graduation ceremonies; it is not a reflection of our university experience here at Exeter.

By demonstrating this to the University, we CAN make a change and all graduate together, as we believe it is owed to us and to our staff who work for ALL students in the department.
