The situation with regards to cyclists using the pavements of Leicester has now reached such epodemic proportions that it is now rare to see them using the road.I have been trying to get something done sbout this problem for the past two years. I have been previously been assured by Deputy Mayor Rory Palmer and the Leicestershire Constabulary that the problem would be looked into and dealth with nothing has been done and the problem is getting worse.
Cycling on the pavement not only shows ignorance towards pedestrians, but is highly dangerous. I have seen cyclists on pavements going at such a high speed which could seriously injure anyone if they hit them. And any argument from cyclists being afraid to cycle on the road simply does not justify creating a danger towards pedestrians. Furthermore cycling on the pavement is against the Highway codes 'rules for cyclists' whereby section 64 states 'You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement. (Laws HA 1835 sect 72 & R(S)A 1984, sect 129)'. For too long now this problem has been ignored by the authorities on such a grand scale that even Police Officers ignore anyone cycling on the pavement
I am asking for Sir Peter Soulsby to take action now, monitor the situation and punish anyone who cycles on the pavement!
