The workers in Singapore are always looked down upon despite contributing to the Singaporean economy significantly. The workers make up around a total of 29% of the total Singaporean workforce. The stigma and opinions associated with migrant workers are that they are ‘smelly’ or ‘uneducated’, which leads to their marginalisation by the Singaporean public. There is also the issue of their abuse by their employers. This includes starvation, physical abuse, unhygienic accommodations and underpayment of wages. They reason they get away with this is another problem: vague and ill-conceived laws that are not rigorously enforced. through this petition, we want to raise awareness of this issue and urge the public to take action in any way they can.
