SEAN LAGRAND started this petition to U.S. House of Representatives and

Windfall Elimination Provision was signed into law in 1983 and Government Pension Offset was signed into law in 1976, these two pieces of legislation reduces Social-Security benefits or some cases eliminates survivors benefits entirely. Should citizens that have a pension and paid into Social-Security have their benefits reduced if you were a police, fire, teacher or railroad worker along with other professions and some foreign citizens that did not pay into Social Security? While working or when retired, you then worked a job that paid into Social Security and if your earned 40 credits upon retiring, you would believe you would receive your total benefits as your Social Security earning has stated but when you apply for your benefits, then you learn your benefits will be reduced, unless you work 30 years paying into Social-Security.

Ask Congress to repeal Windfall Elimination Provision & Government Pension Offset that unfairly harm hardworking citizens.

Members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms and are considered for re-election every even year. There is a Bill in the House to repeal WEP & GPO, titled H.R. 82, that have reached over 290 co-sponsors and is now headed to the House floor for a vote. It is imperative that you continue to ask for their support as the bill moves through the House and onto the Senate.

Thankfully with you all support H.R.82 has met the 290 co-sponsor requirement, now it must maintain the 290 co-sponsor for 25 days before a simply majority vote can be taken sometime in September, where 218 out of 435 yeahs, will advance the bill to the Senate.

Senators however, serve six-year terms and elections to the Senate are staggered over even years so that only about 1/3 of the Senate is up for reelection during any election.

Here are the names of the U. S. Senators and are up for re-election in 2023 and are considered Class III Senators because their term ends in 2023.

Blunt Roy, Boozman John, Burr Richard, Crapo Mike, Grassley Chuck, Hoeven John, Johnson Ron, Kennedy John, Langford James, Lee Mike, Moran Jerry, Paul Rand, Portman Rob, Rubio Marco, Schatz Brian, Scott Tim, Schumer Charles, Shelby Richard, Toomey Patrick, Thune John, Warnock Raphael, Wyden Ron and Young Todd.

There are 6 Class III Senators that are not running for re-election and all are not co-sponsors of S. 1302 except Senator Patrick Leahy from Vermont which is a co-sponsor.

Here is a message taken from the National Education Association that is available to share to repeal WEP and GPO or personalize your own message.

"As a constituent, I urge you to support the Social Security Fairness Act (S. 1302/H.R. 82) and the Social Security 2100 Act (S. 3071/H.R.5723) to ensure public employees get the Social Security benefits they have earned.

More than 2.5 million people dedicated to public service, including many educators, police, firefighters, nurses state and municipal workers, along with other workers have their Social Security benefits reduced—or lose them entirely—due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). The WEP reduces the Social Security benefits of people who work in jobs covered by Social Security and jobs NOT covered by Social Security over the course of their careers—for example, educators compelled to take part-time or summer jobs to make ends meet. The GPO reduces the Social Security spousal or survivor benefits of people who get a government pension (federal, state or local) but did NOT pay Social Security taxes themselves.

Please support the Social Security Fairness Act and the Social Security 2100 Act to fully repeal both the GPO and WEP.
