Annalise Lathan started this petition to Simon Stevens (CEO of NHS England)

Many students whom are studying to become nurses struggle with the demands of university, placement, a home life and paid work to top up those funds. This is unfair as student nurses work in a hospital for 50 percent of their course which therefore means that for them to work part time at an average of 20 hours per week this would require student nurses to work 60 hour weeks whilst having a home life (many student nurses have children and families) and keeping up with assignments. If student nurses were paid an apprentice rate whilst on placement this would help reduce the pressure applied to students to earn money as technically student nurses are another pair of hands on shift (whilst learning).

With the loss of the NHS grant and bursary towards university, many student nurses are struggling and the amount of applicants has drastically decreased. Implementing the apprentice rate was to placements would be an extra help and incentive to current student nurses and future students.
