Aventura Mall: Improve Pedestrian Crosswalks.

My name is Anastasia Torres. On June 20th, 2015, I was struck by a SPEEDING car walking home from Aventura Mall. Thankfully, I came out of the accident with minimum scratches and hip pain that has passed but comes and goes now; but many do not have this luck. In 2014, 4,884 pedestrians and 726 bicyclists were killed in crashes with motor vehicles (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Traffic Safety Facts). Placing PROPER lighted crosswalk sections can make a change to this. The crosswalk to exit the mall from where Bloomingdales is located has NO proper lightening, therefore, at night -- it is EXTREMELY dark. Even during the day, cars speed and refuse to give pedestrians right of way to even cross. In malls across South Florida, the installation of pedestrian crossing lights has become more common. With a huge expansion that the mall is undergoing, all I ask is that ONE OR TWO lights are placed throughout not only this crosswalk but many crosswalks around Aventura Mall. If the mall owners have the ability to place a HUGE parking garage, add more stores and a new food court - why do they fail to acknowledge the safety of their customers? After attempting to speak to head directors of the mall and never getting a proper response, I finally decided to result to this. I need my voice to be heard. I will deliver this petition to the mayor as well as the management/owners/directors of the Aventura Mall.
Thank you very much,
