Iris meade started this petition to Simon Harris (Minister for Health)

In Ireland Chronic Lyme Disease is not recognised as an illness,  even though thousands suffer with debilitating muti-faceted symptoms.  GPs are very ignorant when it comes to understanding this disease and treatment is limited. Most GPs unfortunately look at symptoms in isolation. We have one experienced Infectious Disease Consultant on the island of Ireland.  But we need more educated and to understand this disease.

With Corona virus cases increasing in Ireland,  Lyme sufferers are at risk because of weak immune systems. Mr. Harris this morning stated they will support people with underlying conditions,  lyme sufferers are in this category.  Because this  government refuses to recognise chronic lyme disease,  my question to Mr.Harris is how are we as lyme patients going to be supported in this current serious health crisis?  when it is already extremely difficult to get an accurate diagnosis and then appropriate treatment in Ireland for our condition.

We as patients pay large sums of money for blood lab tests outside of Ireland,   medication and health supplements and many have to travel abroad for appropriate treatment.  Some are bed bound unable to work and function. We face a battle trying to gain supportive means. I plead with you to recognise this invisible disease in Ireland.

Lyme sufferers look well on the outside but inside their bodies they suffer with multiple symptoms.  Please support this petition-  Mr. Harris do what you purport you'll do and recognise and support Lyme disease sufferers in Ireland.  Stop making an already uphill struggle harder for us.
