Petition Closed

Calling all SAGE students to tell Governments to offer compensation and waive debt.

In March this year, it was announced that SAGE Institute was closing and going into administration.

This closure left hundreds of students including my daughter, who was 5 months into a Diploma of Fitness Coaching, in total limbo. Many will have since found out through ASQA that they have no Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) despite months of study and submission of assignments. However, ASQA are still working through student records. Furthermore, in 2017, it appears few or no marks were entered. According to numerous “The Age” newspaper articles, many students were nearing the end of their course and will have nothing to show for all their hard work. To make matters worse, their RPL will not be recognised by other institutes particularly in the case of the Diploma of Fitness Coaching.

It is also outrageous that SAGE accepted large deposits and payments for courses, although they knew they were going under, months prior to their announcement. ACPET, the State and Federal Governments all must have known about the projected closure, yet students were still enrolled.  They, too, are to be held accountable for a lack of regulation of SAGE and many other RTOs which have collapsed in recent years.

I call on all students and their families who have been left in limbo by the closure of SAGE and other Training colleges to support me in signing this petition and demand a full refund of all deposits and waiver of all future ATO debt.

If nothing is done to address this situation, these students will have difficulty enrolling in a new course and feel disengaged in society.
