Katie Hollinger started this petition to Silver Spring Township Board of Supervisors

On January 16, 2020, the Silver Spring Township Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to consider a proposed settlement agreement regarding 451 acres of real estate commonly known as Hempt Farms, which if approved by the Supervisors would rezone the property from agricultural.  The meeting was attended by a standing room only crowd. This petition, signed by 993 Silver Spring Township residents, was presented to the Supervisors at that meeting, along with my comments and the comments of many other residents.

They have heard from their constituents.

Now is the opportunity for EVERYONE who believes they will be negatively impacted by the proposed rezoning to voice your opposition and SIGN THE PETITION!

Keep the land agricultural! Help save the iconic landmark in our community.

The Rezoning sought by the developer and the proposed concept advanced by the settlement agreement will not only impact Silver Spring township residents, but also will affect families with children who attend Cumberland Valley School District, residents of neighboring townships, all who travel the Carlisle Pike and feeder arteries, and beyond. For that reason, this petition is now open to all who wish to sign and voice opposition to the Rezoning.

The concept proposal, prompted by the Curative Amendment application of the property owner, can be found on the Silver Spring Township website: https://pa-silverspring2.civicplus.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1162

[As of January 19, 2020 -- this petition is open to all concerned citizens of any municipality.]

----ORIGINAL PETITION BELOW-----

The owners of the property locally referred to as Hempt Farms, which extends along the Carlisle Pike across from Cumberland Valley Educational Park to Fry Road, are seeking to have the property rezoned from an agricultural zone to a commercial zone.  Mini warehouses are one of the roughly 20 permitted uses in a highway commercial zone.

This petition is to express opposition to rezoning the property.  The undersigned petitioners, who are residents of Silver Spring Township, are concerned about additional traffic and congestion in the neighborhood of Cumberland Valley Educational Park, overtaxing our infrastructure and the further degradation to our local air quality by increased truck traffic accessing additional warehouses that may be built on the site.

The referenced rezoning petition is listed on the Silver Spring Township Board of Supervisors - Special Meeting agenda for January 16, 2020 @ 6:30 p.m.  In addition to signing this petition, you are encouraged to attend the meeting.

BY SIGNING THIS PETITION, I, THE UNDERSIGNED RESIDENT OF SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP DO HEREBY OPPOSE REZONING OF "THE HEMPT PROPERTY" BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE RESIDENTS OF SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP.
