Matt Fulcher started this petition to Siler City Parks and Recreation Department and

The purpose of this petition is not to be radical in calling for a skate park, but rather to call attention to the fact that there are many people within Siler City, and even Chatham County as a whole, that would like to see a Skate Park added to the local parks. This is meant to serve as more of a localized signature list than a petition, as we are not trying to force anything on anyone, just raise awareness and hopefully bring some change.

I grew up in Siler City from the age of 5 and currently still reside in Siler at the age of 24, going on 25. Like most kids I grew up playing team sports on the local recreation teams. Everything from baseball to basketball to soccer, I was doing it. But something about team sports didn't suit me, and I found myself becoming less and less interested. And then I found skateboarding, a hobby that I could enjoy on my own or with the many friends that I would come to find and consider family. A hobby that turned into a passion and taught me perseverance, determination, and how to be self-critical in a way that is healthy and informative.

That has not changed at all from the age of 11 to now, I still learn every day that I step on a skateboard and I still yearn to learn and grow on a skateboard. One thing that also has not changed are the places available to skateboard in Siler City, the only one being Drydock Seafood for as long as I can remember. While we are extremely grateful to Lee and Pete for allowing us to use their parking lot and space, we are only allowed to before business hours and on Monday's when they are closed. The nearest  Skate Park to Siler City that doesn't require an admission fee is the Rodgers Family Plaza in Apex and then the Durham City Skate Park. Other than that there are several in Greensboro/Raleigh/Durham/Wake-Forest, but none in the immediate Siler City area.

I am asking that the Siler City Parks and Recreation Department allot a plot of 4,000 sq. ft(minimum) to 8,000 sq. ft(maximum) to be built on the 50 acre development that will be going underway starting in 2020/2021. The maximum allotment being asked for would only be 1/272 of the 50 Acre(2.178 million sq.ft) development and would offer a new alternative to traditional team sports for the local youth, as well as something new and exciting for the locals that grew up hoping for something like this to come to Siler City, or even the greater Chatham County area.

If you feel that this would be a good idea/addition to Siler City then please leave a signature and share this page, because I want nothing more than to see this effort achieved, and I know that so many others feel the same.
