Georgia's legislatures recently passed a new law aimed at stopping the right to vote. These laws make it much harder for people to vote in urban areas. Which disproportionately harms minority and democratic voters. This law is a clear power grab and it violates our constitutional right to vote. There are hundreds of thousands of voters in Georgia's cities that will find it much more difficult to exercise their right to vote. Here are some of the restrictions this law puts in place:

Drop boxes are basically nonexistent. Mail-in ballots are incredibly hard to get a hold of and you often have to wait days or weeks to even receive a ballot, let alone vote. It is also illegal to hand out food or water to voters waiting in line. 

Here is what it would be like for most people to vote in Georgia with this new law. Once you get to your correct polling location you have to wait in line for hours in the hot Georgia sun with no water. Once you finally get to the polls, you will have to go through a very strict identification process to even be allowed to get into the polls. All that just to cast your ballot. All that time waiting means that you are missing work, which can be disastrous for low income voters and their families. It shouldn't be difficult this difficult to vote.  

This disproportionately harms people living in cities because this law makes it easier for people in small suburban and rural counties to vote early, but it doesn't help people voting in cities. This bill also harms minority voters because they are more likely to live in the city. So if you are a rich white man living in a suburb of Atlanta you won't have a problem voting, but if you are a poor latino man living in the city you have to go through all the trouble caused by this law just to vote. 

Finally this harms democracy. In order for a functioning democracy everyone needs to be able to vote, but this law takes away that right. If we do nothing this will spiral out of control and soon will spread to other states and further harm democracy. In order to protect democracy WE NEED TO ACT NOW!
