Making the case for improving ESA
Aug 20, 2014 — We've heard many shocking stories from people going through Mandatory Reconsideration who are unable to afford to live. We're making sure the government hears these stories - last week we submitted evidence to the fifth, and final, independent review of the Work Capability Assessment.
We shared Martin’s story. He was on mandatory reconsideration for five weeks, during which he was denied JSA because he wasn’t fit to work and had all of his benefits stopped. We told the review that over 11,000 people (you!) support our call to pay ESA at assessment rate while people like Martin await a second opinion on their claim, and pointed out that this change would save people from financial hardship and stress.
At times like this, your support is vital to help us demonstrate to the government that making this change would be a popular decision. So thanks again for signing and sharing this petition – and please keep going!
