Heydi Mejia illegally came to the U.S. when she was 4-years old. This young lady graduated from high school last week in Virginia, with awards from the National Honor Society and the Virginia governor. She and her mother were scheduled to be deported to Guatemala this week; however, they received a one-year deferral from the Department of Homeland Security at the last minute.
Heydi's knowledge about modern Guatemala comes in part from what she’s read on Wikipedia. She speaks better English than she does Spanish, and she is a top, non trouble-making student.
Please join me in working to keep Heydi and her mother in the United States so that this young woman can pursue her dreams of becoming a nurse and remaining in the country that she was raised in.
