It is high time that our state and our nation began to provide viable, 21st-century options for transportation. A 2009 study by the Texas Transportation Institute showed that the less than $4 million invested by TX & OK in our Heartland Flyer service yielded an $18 million boost to the economies en route. Commuters could rest or work on their rides between Oklahoma City and Tulsa, while the dangers and expenses associated with driving are greatly diminished. Tulsans could enjoy trips to Bricktown and going to see the OKC Thunder play at Chesapeake Arena or continue via train to Norman for an OU game. The citizens of OKC could visit Tulsa's burgeoning Blue Dome and Brady Districts, attend a concert at the BOK Center, or catch a Drillers game at the new ONEOK Ball Park. Stroud and other small towns en route also stand to gain from more visitors and contributors to their local economy. The Eastern Flyer would also connect Oklahomans with the nation-wide Amtrak system, through which one can travel the entire country. In these times of economic uncertainty and high energy costs, it's a no-brainer that Oklahomans should have multi-modal options for transport - if you're an Okie and you agree, take action now!
