Hoplites Sickle Cell Foundation started this petition to Nigerian Senate (National Assembly) and

Sickle cell disease is already a problem that needs urgent attention, it has eaten deep into economic and social welfare of some citizens hence the need for the SICKLE CELL DISEASE RESEARCH AND TREATMENT CENTRE BILL.

Nigeria has the highest burden of Sickle Cell Disease, we have 150,000 of the  300,000 sickle cell disease globally at  new births every year. This means for every two babies born with sickle cell, one is a Nigerian. Yet our nation don't have a legislation on sickle cell. In the year 1972, The United State congress passed the National Sickle Cell Disease control act, 50 years after, Nigeria that is the world capital of sickle cell disease don't have a legislation on sickle cell.

We need put more actions, we need to have right attitudes, we need to curb preventable massive deaths and avoidable hardships and above all, an effective and appropriate working bill to exercise the fundamental rights of everyone living with sickle cell.
