If Congress and the White House repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obama Care, before they fix the problem below, millions of Americans with preexisting medical conditions will be left without insurance.
Before the (ACA) took effect, over 8 million of adults under the age of 65 were uninsurable due to conditions like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, according to the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation. Millions more had conditions that rendered their premiums unaffordable. The ACA was upheld in the supreme court on June 28, 2012. and it prohibited this problem from happening again.
My name is Lydia Myhoob and I am a Breast Cancer patient since 2015. I am now 44 years old and in remission. I am excited to still be here and I attribute this to the fact that I was able through the Affordable Care Act to receive MRI to detect cancer in my breast, to get surgery and treatment for it. My cancer was growing at a faster pace and without the medical resources to detect and treat my cancer my story would not be the same.
No matter your position in regard to Obama Care, we all agree that those with a preexisting condition should be able to get proper and affordable medical coverage.
I have appreciated access to health care through the Affordable Care Act. I am afraid that the repeal of Obama Care will also repeal my access to affordable health care insurance or even coverage because I do have a preexisting condition now.
We need you to sign our petition and require that congress finds a way to guarantee affordable health care coverage for Americans with a preexisting condition.
The solution could be as simple as making the provision that has guaranteed coverage for preexisting condition under the ACA into a law before repealing the ACA or writing a new version that guarantees acceptability of health care for patients with a preexisting condition.
Whatever the solution, our Congress can and should pass a law that is workable and balances the field and creates fairness between the patients, the insurance companies and the government. An American even with a preexisting medical condition should still have some kind of recourse and the law should be clear on that.
America is greater when we stand tall beside each other.
I appreciate your help in signing this petition and in sharing it with your friends.
