Sidewalks on Oakwood Drive - for the safety of all!

The safety of our families and of all the residents in the neighbourhood is important to everyone. On Oakwood Drive there has been more speeding and we have had more parked vehicles on the road and its stamped pavement walkway than ever before. Because of this it has become increasingly dangerous for all pedestrians who walk or live on Oakwood Drive.
- Durham Region in 2015 had 170 traffic collisions involving a pedestrian, 51 of them occurred between the months of September and November. Seniors are a particularly vulnerable group and are more likely to be seriously injured or killed if struck. (Source DRPS)
- 200 local children attend Rosebank Road Public School and walk to school. The school does not have busing options for our students so installing a raised sidewalk will provide a safe route for them
- Children in our neighbourhood who attend French immersion and catholic schools use Oakwood for their bus stops. The lack of proper sidewalks forces them to walk and stand on the road
- During the winter months, the stamped pavement is not always visible or cleared and pedestrians are forced to walk around parked vehicles putting them in the way of oncoming traffic
No one wants someone they love to get hurt. Let's not wait until an injury or something worse happens before making a change.
We, the undersigned, are residents of Oakwood Drive and its surrounding areas who are petitioning the City of Pickering to install new Sidewalks on Oakwood Drive for the safety of all the residents in the neighbourhood.
