Why this petition matters

Started by Nicole Paoline
“Bully World Express” breeds exotic bullies and “fluffy frenchies” which he “created” by breeding his “rare color Pekingese with a French Bulldog.” This is backyard breeding. Backyard breeding creates a multitude of problems within a dog breed and within dogs as a whole.
WHAT IS BACKYARD BREEDING?
If you don’t know what a backyard breeding is, here’s a quick summary:
- Not breeding to a set of breed standards, which establish what a breeder needs to be breeding for in a litter of dogs.
- No OFA testing done by veterinarians on the parents prior to breeding. This makes sure the parents don’t pass down anything inheritable genetic diseases
- No temperament testing done by breed evaluators on the parents to prevent genetic behavioral problems in puppies
- Not proving the parents in dog sports. This means that the parents have to excel and win in competitions such as conformation, dock diving, weight pull, and other dog sports in which that dog was bred for originally
- Pedigrees of the parents must be known. Embark testing does not prove parental lines.
- PURPOSE BRED MUTTS: there can be a mixed breed that is considered ethical breeding but ONLY if the puppies will be used for a purpose such as police, military or guide dog work. Companionship is not considered a purpose.
WHAT MAKES “BULLY WORLD EXPRESS” A BACKYARD BREEDER?
- No OFA testing done—the OFA website is public facing, and when you search the kennel or the sires and dams, no results are found.
- Breeding non-purpose bred mutts, also trying to label the mutts as purebred.
- Not breeding for anything other than appearance; no breed standard to follow because he’s breeding mutts/unrecognized dog “breeds”
- Pedigrees of parent dogs are unknown
- No known temperament testing done.
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
- Backyard breeding is the #1 reason why dogs end up in shelters. These dogs often have major health and behavioral problems. Backyard breeders breed for profit only and will not reclaim their pups back should health or behavioral problems arise, or if the owner can no longer care for the puppy.
- Backyard breeders create problems and false stigmas within purebreds. Since they don’t test temperament or health, breeds like Dalmatians, Dachshunds and the American Pit Bull Terrier have received reputations they don’t deserve.
- Backyard bred puppies always have lifelong major health problems, many of which end their lives early.
