Shut Down Drew Rodney Dentistry

Shut Down Drew Rodney Dentistry
Why this petition matters

Drew Rodney is a dentist who took over an existing dental practice over the past few months. Within this short amount of time, Drew committed a racial act towards long term patients of the dentistry, one being a child.
The community has took matters into their own hands from reading the post the victim shared on Facebook, on behalf of knowing her themselves. She is an amazing woman, and very well favored by MANY in our community. She has no prior history of writing posts of any traumatic events that has happened to her and her family, so I guess we are all unsure why the victim is being accused of a “false experience” about what should have been a simple dental visit?
Instead of an apology, or any other form of communication, Drew’s entourage (including his mother/receptionist) has took matters into their own hands as well. They’ve left poor reviews on the victims place of business and are completely dismissing the victims experience with irrelevant “points”. We don’t believe this was handled professionally, and still no word has came from Drew Rodney himself.
We believe under these circumstances it’s appropriate this can’t be a situation risked happening a second time. His actions and words were racist, cold hearted, and disgusting towards a mother and her child. Drew Rodney should 100% be removed from this practice.
I am not the victim, but I’m sharing her words from her Facebook post:
“Today my daughter and I experienced an indescribable level of racism that left me speechless. I shy away from venting on social media, or callalling people out on here, but this incident shook me to the core that I had to share. My daughter had a dentist appointment at 4pm today, so as soon as she got out of school, we hurried to her appointment at “Drew Rodney Dentistry” located at 686 Brighton Avenue in Portland, ME. My husband has been going to this location for 15 + years and I joined him when I moved to Maine, then we had our daughter and the whole family has been regulars at this practice. We saw doctor Zappia, the previous owner until this new owner took over the practice about a month ago after Dr. Zappia's retirement. We got to the appointment 10 minutes early, got checked in and sat in the waiting area. DREW RODNEY, the dentist in question was standing in the waiting room chatting about sports, weather and a host of other topics with another person. There were others in the waiting area waiting to be seen as well. About 15 minutes later, I went up to the receptionist and asked if she knew how much longer it would be before we were going to be seen, she told me that she had twice notified Drew Rodney that we were his 4pm appointment. I told her no problem and that I was just checking to know if we were possibly going to be out of there by 5:30pm due to another appointment that I had at that time. We sat back down and kept waiting. All this happened while the dentist was standing there still having a chat. When he was done, approximately 35 minutes after the scheduled appointment, and walked up to my daughter and I and went off on us in a very loud, rude and belittling tone.... “how long do you think your appointment was for, your kind of people are not the right fit for this practice, you look like the rude kind, you can't come to my practice and start asking my receptionist how long your appointment will be, I’m not here to work with people like you and I don't work with your kind because I can just look at you and know you are full of trouble. I'm not gonna see your daughter today, you are now dismissed, you can now leave, thank you”. I was frozen, speechless and hot teary-eyed on the spot. I asked him what exactly my child and I had done or said that had him talking to us in that manner? He said he didn't have time to go any further with us because we are the rude kind. I took my daughter's hand, turned around, and said thank you to the receptionist and got out. I called my husband and explained the incident to him and he called them to find out what the problem was and the receptionist told my husband that she didn't want to get into it and transferred the call to Drew Rodney who then went off on my husband as well and told him that he too was dismissed from his practice. Up to this moment, I’m still trying to process this.” - 5/3/2022
