Julie Brooks started this petition to Spartanburg High District 7/ Administration

Nicholas J Dixon, also known as "freight train," played his heart out on the field for Spartanburg High School. He was a great leader & team mate. Nick had many fans that love him and enjoyed watching him play. As many of you may know, Nick was injured in The Shrine Bowl on December 15, 2018 representing his high school and playing the sport he loved. He passed away during what was supposed to be a simple, routine knee surgery on January 11, 2019. This was a very devastating and unexpected loss for my family and I. As Nick's mother, I cannot express enough how much Nick is missed. Nick excelled in many things on the field and off. He was an amazing athlete and a smart student. The day before his surgery, he had made the decision to commit to Wingate University. There has been a line backer of the year award created in honor of his name. The football team was given new uniforms in his name thanks to the Carolina Panthers. All these things are great. My family and I appreciate the things that have been done for us in Nick's honor but we would love for jersey # 7 at Spartanburg High to be retired in his honor. Although it is not the fault of anyone at Spartan High for the passing of my son, I feel my son deserves this honor. I can only think that my son would still be here, had he not played his heart out in the Shrine Bowl and tore his ACL and meniscus. I have tried to reason with the district and administration but have had no luck. It seems they have had their benefits from the passing of my son, but nobody has once asked about my wishes as his mother. My family and I would love the support of our community & help getting Nick's jersey # 7 retired.
