Save The Ironbridge Towers From Demolition

Standing on the banks of the River Severn the Ironbridge Power Station is part of local history. The Cooling Towers are a huge part of the landscape standing above the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, where the Industrial Revolution began. Originally powered by coal, they were converted to use 100% biomass fuel. Now decommissioned there fate is to be demolished over a 15 year period to build new homes. The views from the Wrekin will never be the same again.
Save the towers from demolition. Make this another part of the Ironbridge Heritage Site. This would increase tourism to the local area creating more jobs and revenue. Extend the railway lines and open them up to join the local Telford Steam Railway.
I am a resident from Telford originally from Wolverhampton and my father worked at these cooling towers for a number of years within the furnace trade, potteries and pipeworks in the Ironbridge. He has worked in this trade all his life trying to fight off the industries being sold abroad to cheaper companies and still using the techniques created in the Black Country dating back to the Industrial Revolution. My father has worked for Wedgwood and was part of the Buildwas Furnaces restoration team which still stands to this day. This has been a huge part of our lives growing up as is with many other residents. An expected 15 years tearing up the landscape to build new homes. The cooling towers need to stay as they can never be replaced.
